At Home in "The Shack"?So what's your take on the current runaway bestseller "The Shack"? Is it heresy, or harmless fiction? - -
My friend Scott Fowler said this about that: “A touching book with a compelling storyline which displays a smattering of profundities wrapped in an excess of words placed in the mouths of the Godhead, a mystery hitherto approached with reverence and awe by generations of theologians but not demystified in one medium-sized paperback book, and laced with a healthy portion of unhealthy theology. Think the emerging church meets Barna’s revolution meets Oprah-ology.”

Everyone is reading it, and we sell it in our bookstore here at CFAN. Keep in mind that it is fiction, the author makes that very clear. I read it and found it very inspiring, and I don't read much fiction. Anytime anyone writes something that gives you a feeling that the Godhead is very real and personal is a thumbs up. I tried to find some heretical teaching and anything that disagreed with basic doctrine and couldn't find any!! Was there anything that rubbed my legalistic thoughts the ... [ Pat Leksen ]

First of all, I almost never read fiction and only read this book because of the stir it has created. Second, I do not get my theology from a fiction book. Third, the man’s impression was not a literal manifestation of God (although I found the characterization of the Trinity to be fresh and challenging). Fourth, not every point in an allegory aligns perfectly with every theological concept, whether the author is C. S. Lewis, John Bunyan or William P. Young.
